【摘要】:Elementalconstituentsinpotablewater,receivingwater,andwastewaterneedtobeidentifiedforsupportofeffectivepollutioncontrolprograms.TestMethodsA,B,andCprovidethetechniquesnecessarytomakesuchmeasurements.NickelisconsideredtoberelativelynontoxictomanandalimitfornickelisnotincludedintheEPANationalInterimPrimaryDrinkingWaterRegulations.7Thetoxicityofnickeltoaquaticlifeindicatestolerancesthatvarywidelyandthatareinfluencedbyspecies,pH,synergisticeffects,andotherfactors.Nickelisasilver-whitemetallicelementseldomoccur-ringinnatureintheelementalform.Nickelsaltsaresolubleandcanoccurasaleachatefromnickel-bearingores.Nickelsaltsareusedinmetal-platingandmaybedischargedtosurfaceorgroundwaters.1.1Thesetestmethodscovertheatomicabsorptiondeterminationofnickelinwaterandwastewaters.Threetestmethodsaregivenasfollows:ConcentrationRangeSectionsTestMethodA-AtomicAbsorption,Direct0.1to10mg/L7-16TestMethodB-AtomicAbsorption,Chelation-Extraction10to1000956;g/L17-26TestMethodC-AtomicAbsorption,GraphiteFurnace5to100956;g/L27-361.2TestMethodsA,B,andChavebeenusedsuccessfullywithreagentgradewaterandnaturalwaters.EvaluationofTestMethodCwasalsomadeincondensatefromamediumBtucoalgasificationprocess.Itistheuser'sresponsibilitytoensurethevalidityofthesetestmethodsforothermatrices.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.Forspecifichazardsstatements,seeNote4,11.7.1,21.9,23.7,and23.10.Twoformercolorimetrictestmethodswerediscontinued.RefertoAppendixX1forhistoricalinformation.
